Apologies but there is a nationwide shortage of hens and we are unable to guarantee we will have spare birds until later in the summer. We currently have a very long waiting list and limited amounts of birds arriving to fulfil the backlog of orders.

How to Buy

We are operating the business exactly as normal but without any direct contact. Apologies but due to the enormous volume of calls, we are struggling to answer the phone at the moment so email is the best form of contact.

1. Please email us with your telephone number, requirements & the best time to ring you. We will reply to confirm receipt of your request (please bear with us, we are getting hundreds of emails daily, it is taking time to reply to everyone).

2. As birds arrive we will work through all our emails in order and call you, discuss your requirements & can give any advice needed. Please be aware this may take a few months as supply of birds is very limited & unpredictable.

3. We will take payment over the phone for your birds & any products you require.

4. Your birds will be boxed and put in a safe place for you to collect at a designated time.

EX COMMERCIAL HENS - £6 - £10

These are 18 month hens from a free range commercial system that would be sold for slaughter. They should still have plenty of laying days in front of them but egg shell quality may not be good enough for supermarket & lay will be more unpredictable.

BLACK SUSSEX - £20

HEN SIZE: Medium/Large

COLOUR: Black with varying amounts of white feathers around the head, neck and hackles. Some are almost totally black.

EGGS: Up to 280 per year

EGG COLOUR: Light to mid brown.

CHARACTER: Usually nice, friendly hens.

COPPER STAR - £25

HEN SIZE: Medium

COLOUR: Glossy black with a beetle green sheen & varying amounts of copper neck feathers. Some have a small amount of leg feathering, a throwback from their Marans ancestors.Occasionally we have them in a chestnut red.

EGGS: Up to 260 per year

EGG COLOUR: Mid to dark brown.

CHARACTER: Usually docile and friendly.

COLOUR: Shades of grey from pale, dove grey to dark slate. Some have small amounts of cream or gold chest feathers.

PARTRIDGE STAR - £20

HEN SIZE: Medium

COLOUR: Shades of brown with varying amounts of white and gold spots.

EGGS: Up to 330 per year

EGG COLOUR: Cream - Mid brown.

CHARACTER: Alongside their White Star cousins, they are one of the best layers, they have lots of character but are prone to being flighty.

COLOUR: Dark grey and white barred feathers. Some have much whiter markings, especially round the head. A few have light leg feathering.

CHARACTER: Usually nice, friendly hens.

COLOUR: Huge range of colours including pure white, cuckoo, shades of blue and browns. Some have little head crests.

EGGS: Up to 280 per year

EGG COLOUR: The majority will lay shades of blue/green but a small proportion lay shades of cream to brown or a pinky colour.

CHARACTER: Can be quite flighty but some become quite friendly.
