Wednesday: 9am - 5pm

Thursday: 9am - 5pm

Friday: 9am - 5pm

Saturday: 9am - 4pm

If dropping off during shop hours no appointment is needed.

Sunday & Tuesdays

Please contact us a day or two before to arrange a time.  This is essential as there will be no-one here when the shop is closed.  We can usually be available 9am - 1pm on these days.

When collecting on the days we are closed, your hens will be boxed up and put in the Click & Collect building just before the time arranged for you to help yourself to.

DISCLAIMER - BY BRINGING YOUR HENS TO US YOU ARE AGREEING TO THESE TERMS

We undertake to look after your hens to the very best of our ability and knowledge. We cannot be held responsible for any illness, injury, theft, loss, predator attack or death whilst in our care.

Any hens not collected within 7 days of the arranged collection date will automatically become the property of Newland Poultry and will be re-homed.

Hens collected after midday may be moved to alternative housing during busy periods.

Should we be placed in a legally restricted movement area by DEFRA after your birds have arrived,  then you are aware that you will not be able to take your birds home, and will be liable for the boarding fee’s until restrictions are lifted. There is always a small risk of bird flu outbreaks at any time of the year and should bird flu or any notifiable disease be diagnosed on any birds on our premises, DEFRA would legally have to cull all birds on site (which would include boarding hens) and no compensation is payable.

If you are collecting Sunday - Tuesday your hens will be boxed up and put out at the agreed time for you to collect.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Health

Because we take the health of our own hens and all our boarders seriously, please contact us if your hens are unwell, particularly if they are showing any respiratory symptoms. We understand they all have ‘off’ days and minor problems but we couldn’t accept any birds showing signs of contagious illness, or who need to be isolated, and we do strictly adhere to this policy for the safety of other hens staying with us.

Please be aware that moving home can be stressful for chickens (although we do our best to minimise this and hardly ever have issues). Stress can affect chickens in many ways - they can stop laying, any underlying illnesses can be triggered by stress, moulting can be started and any hens who are vulnerable or weak can become unwell or even die from the results of stress.  The best option is always to keep your hens at home.  We very, very rarely have any issues but be aware that things can arise when they are moved or stressed in any way.

We give them a health check on arrival, and note down any issues with the hens - please note that this is not to make you feel uncomfortable (or ‘test’ your chicken keeping skills!) but simply to ensure your hens are returned to you in the same condition they arrived.  Please can you carefully check (& treat if necessary) your hens for lice and mites before bringing them.

All hens need to be at least 16 weeks old to board with us.  Until this age they require a special diet and do not have a fully developed immune system which could put them at risk.

Our Service

We provide the highest quality Versele Laga layers pellets or mash ad lib.  If you would like them to have an alternative diet please bring it along with them and we will stick to your routine.  Unfortunately we cannot feed them any household feed due to DEFRA rules.

As we can have many hens boarding here, we don’t keep your eggs for you for the simple reason that identifying all the eggs laid and by whom is not feasible and more importantly we don’t have enough cool/safe storage areas.  Most hens go off lay when they move anyway, so hopefully you won’t miss too many eggs!

Your hens will be locked in the Omlet housing every night & let out in the morning to keep them safe from Mr Fox and out of draughts.

Whilst we are able to treat most common health problems here, should your hens require veterinary treatment we would require reimbursement on collection, but we would do our utmost to contact you first for authorisation.
